Dear Friends,
We wish to express our full support and solidarity with you in your straggle against the recent attacks on a section of the students of your institute.
We learnt that it was suddenly announced that the Government of India – Post Matric Scholarship (GOI- PMS) for the SC-ST students is going to be discontinued. This is outrageous and extremely unjust, as the affected students, for no fault of theirs, will be unable to continue their studies.
This attack is one in a series of attacks that the governments at the Centre and state levels are launching on the students as well as teachers. Every day we learn that government schools are being closed down, students’ scholarships are being delayed by months if not years, the teachers’ salaries are not paid for months together, their pays are not raised as per the recommendations of its own Pay Commissions and so on. Despite its loud promises, the government has shown that it cares not one bit for the education of the working people of our country, just as it does not care for their nutrition, health, etc. Thus this attack is not just against one section of students, but a part of its overall offensive against the working people.
We appreciate the fact that your Union bravely took up the fight based on the principle, “An Attack on One is an Attack on All!” We observed that students of all castes and communities are unitedly fighting for justice.
