march towards Parliament on April 3, 2018
——————-
New Delhi, March 24, 2018
The declaration of 60 autonomous institutions and the categorisation of higher educational institutions as announced by UGC under direct pressure from MHRD is strongly condemned by AIFUCTO as derogatory the interests of the teaching community of the country. This move is not only unconstitutional but also an attempt by the government to shrug off all financial and moral responsibilities towards higher education through an attempt that blatantly tries to privatise eminent centres of higher learning in India and thus make education a corporate entity . Education will thus become more expensive thereby being robbed of its public, egalitarian character. This move towards autonomy is well thought out and conscious attempt of the central government to make education out of bounds for the common people by making it expensive, directly under the pressure and directive of World Bank through NITI Ayog & HEFA.
Prof Arun Kumar General Secretary, AIFUCTO calls upon all the teachers of India across schools, colleges and universities and all others associated with education to join the massive protest rally in New Delhi against such move of the central government. We should take this as a challenge and march towards Parliament on April 3, 2018 in a historic show of strength against such education unfriendly and antipeople attitude of the government.
AIFUCTO is organising Protest & Rally In Delhi under the banner of the Joint Forum for Movement on Education ( JFME ). AIFUCTO has called for a massive protest rally primarily against the ant people and corporate friendly Education Policy of the government.
Teachers’ bodies like AIFUCTO, FEDCUTA, DUTA, AISTF, STFI, BSTA, AIFETO, FISE, AIRFUCTO, AISEC, BPTA, STEA, ABUTA as well as student bodies like AISF, SFI,AISA and AIDSO are participating in this historic rally and protest march on 3rd April. More number of organisations, associations and bodies actively working for education are showing keen interest to join the movement. The immense interest generated by various sections of the academic bodies definitely indicates the historic character of the proposed movement on April 3, 2018. The rally will be addressed by leaders of various political parties of India, the murmurs if which will resonate in Parliament as well. The march will begin at 11am from Mandi House Circle and reach Parliament House by 2pm.
In an earlier press release AIFUCTO had already talked in detail about the precarious situation of higher education in India with immanent threat of privatisation, shutting down of educational institutions, almost zero appointment in educational institutions with the concomitant ideological brain washing that is continuously going on and therefore the significance of all affiliate teachers’ bodies of AIFUCTO to join the rally on April 3, 2018. We demand that central government must withdraw such measures and rethink its ideological basis. The government is treading a dangerous path which will not only unite the people to denouncing the evil but bring about an addition a fuel to the fire in campus.
